This event is dedicated to our colleague and friend Ariel Gustavo Scafuri MD, PhD, FACS, FECSM, IF, board-certified urologist and obstetrician-gynecologist and a full Professor of Anatomy at Federal University of Ceará, Medical School, Ceará, Brazil passed away due to complications from COVID-19.
Ariel was one of few that had received gynecology, urology and psychology comprehensive training, thus being equipped to provide true multidisciplinary care to his patients. Ariel was also actively involved in the major national and international scientific societies: the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM), the European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM), the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), the Latin American Society of Sexual Medicine (SLAMS) and also the Brazilian Association of Sexual Medicine (ABEMSS).
We will always remember him as a loving man. May his passion for learning and his enthusiasm for scientific novelty influence the next generations of sexual medicine specialists.

Sue W. Goldstein, BA, CCRC, AASECT-CSE, IF
Ms. Goldstein, a graduate of Brown University, is Sexuality Educator and Clinical Research Manager at San Diego Sexual Medicine, responsible for sexual medicine educational programming and clinical research. She works with the SDSM team to develop clinical research projects, write protocols and oversee clinical trials. She also arranges for training in sexual medicine for medical students, residents, fellows and clinicians from all over the country. She works with the Sexual Medicine program at Alvarado Hospital and regional support groups to provide education to providers, students and the public. In addition, she develops programs for The Institute for Sexual Medicine, a charitable corporation dedicated to research and education in the field. Ms. Goldstein co-authored When Sex Isn’t Good to provide education and empowerment to women with sexual dysfunction. She is managing editor of Sexual Medicine Reviews. She is an associate editor of Textbook of Female Sexual Function and Dysfunction, and Female Sexual Pain Disorders, and author of multiple peer reviewed papers. Mrs. Goldstein is currently President-Elect of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) as well as Industry Relations Chair. Past board positions include Global Development Chair, Education Chair, and On-Line Services Chair. She serves on the Education Committee of the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) as well as the Educational Projects, Fellowship and Female Sexual Function Committees of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA). She has contributed educational content for the ISSM Online University as well as the AUA Core Curriculum and SMSNA Fellowship Curriculum. She is also a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). She is an AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator and an ACRP Certified Clinical Research Coordinator. Ms. Goldstein is an ISSWSH Fellow and a 2017 recipient of the ISSWSH Distinguished Service Award.
Fernando Facio Jr. MD. PhD.
Fernando Facio is a Professor of Urology at the FAMERP Medical School in Brazil. He is also currently the Medical Director Men’s Health Program. He is serving as Chair of Grants & Prizes at the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM), and he is the Treasurer of the Latin American Sexual Medicine Society (SLAMS).
Prof Facio received his Post-Doc in Sexual Medicine by Johns Hopkins University, USA. He has more than 135 peer reviewed publications and 250 citations.
Prof. Carlo Bettocchi, MD, FECSM
He is currently Director of the Department of Andrology and External Genital Surgery and Associate Professor of Urology at the Hospital-University Company “Ospedali Riuniti” in Foggia. From 1995 to 2021 he worked in the Department of Urology, Andrology and Kidney Transplantation at Policlinico – University Hospital of Bari, Italy, and he has been largely involved in both diagnostic and surgical patient’s care. He became Responsable of the Andrological Section of this Urological Dept in January 1996 and he has been the director of the “Functional Urological Unit” since 2017. This Unit has became a “Europen Teaching Center for Penile Prosthesis Implant” since 2018 due to his large and recognize expertise in this filed. He also works in Geneve, Swiss, since 2015 in collaboration with the Male Health International Surgical Center (MHISC) where he operates on reconstructive surgery for male genitalia. He is also “Visiting Professor” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with license for working since 2013. Bettocchi is president of the European Society of Sexual Medicine (ESSM). He is also Executive Member of both Andrological Section of the European Association of Urology (ESAU) and Italian National Observatory on Gender Dysphoria (ONIG).
Dr Bruno C.G. Nascimento
D r. Bruno Nascimento is a physician, surgeon and urologist trained at the USP School of Medicine as a Fellowship in Sexual Medicine and Andrology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Nova Iorque (USA). His work and studies focus on all aspects of male sexual health and sexual rehabilitation of cancer patients (Survivorship Programs). Dr. Nascimento is also a member of the Sexual Medicine and Andrology group of the Hospital das Clínicas da FM-USP, ISSM member – Communication committee member and vice-chair of Young Researchers committee and the Secretary General of ABEMSS (Brasilian Association for Studies of Sexual Medicine and Sexual Health) 2020-2022.
Prof. Annamaria Giraldi
Professor Annamaria Giraldi is Senior Consultant in Psychiatry in the Sexological Clinic at Psychiatric Center Copenhagen and Professor in Clinical Sexology at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, where she also received her medical degree and PhD. Professor Giraldi has been involved in the field of sexual medicine for many years, educating medical students, nurses, physicians and psychologists in sexual medicine. Professor Giraldi has been involved in basic research on vascular and smooth muscle function in male and female sexual responses, clinical research on the pharmacological treatment of erectile dysfunction and female sexual desire and arousal disorders as well as in research on somatic disease, psychiatric problems and sexuality. Clinically Professor Giraldi works with men, women and couples with sexual dysfunctions and has worked with transgender care. Her special academic and clinical interest is disease and sexual function and dysfunction Professor Giraldi has published more than 100 papers, editorials and book chapters in the field of male and female sexual medicine. She is past Deputy Editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, Past President of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health and President of the International Society for Sexual Medicine.
